What is CAPA’s Dancing With Our Stars Event in Beaufort, SC?

Those of you who know me personally know how much I love a good party with plenty of dancing and a great excuse to dress up! But nothing beats the opportunity to do all of my favorite things while also raising money for an incredible cause. Next month I am looking forward to finally taking the stage for Dancing with Our Stars, an event in partnership with CAPA & USCB Center for the Arts.

Dancing with Our Stars is a two-night fundraising performance that showcases people in Beaufort who have been chosen for their hard work in our community. I will be dancing alongside our local hero lineup which includes bankers, teachers, an engineer, a business owner, a dentist, a mortgage broker, hospital CEO, and even an HVAC professional. We have all been paired with a dance instructor who will choreograph our performance to help raise money for CAPA Beaufort.

What is CAPA?

“CAPA” stands for “Child Abuse Prevention Association”, and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment for children right here in Beaufort, South Carolina. They provide support and resources to families, education and awareness to the public, and advocacy and guidance to those affected by child abuse. In total, the annual Dancing With Our Stars event has raised over $700,000 to fund day-to-day operations at the existing Children's Home. Last year, the organization received enough to announce plans to construct a new building to house and serve abused and neglected children in our community.

Giving Back to the Community

My wonderful teammate Rashad Gadson and I have been working our tail feathers off between practicing our dance moves and fundraising for CAPA. The past two months alone we raised over $30,000 toward our goal of $50,000. We couldn’t have done it without our support at events like the 70s Disco at The Islands of Beaufort Clubhouse, and giveback days at Tout Sweet Macarons, Hearth, Plums, and Fat Patties. It’s so incredible to see all of the business owners in Beaufort donate time and resources to help the most vulnerable people in our community.

Support the Cause!

While we are over halfway to our team’s goal, raising that amount of money is no small feat, and we still need your help! Join us in supporting real change and making a difference right here in our community by raising funds to support the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA). We still have a few events before the night of the show. Join us for our Studio 54 Fundraiser at Fat Patties on Saturday, February 25th. DJ Johnny Perez will be there spinning tunes from 5:00-9:00 PM. Get ready to bid on auction items and enter raffles for a night at The Rhett House Inn, a stunning painting by Melissa Lyon Art, and more!

If you aren't able to attend in person, you can donate online to the team here. Even a small donation will go a long way to helping us meet our goal for CAPA!
