2022 Beaufort New Business Spotlight
The holidays are a great time for reflection and gratitude, and I am so thankful to live in a vibrant, growing community. This past year brought so many new entrepreneurs to Beaufort. I’ve had a great time visiting, and becoming a regular at some truly amazing shops, restaurants, and other businesses in our town. As the year winds down I want to take a moment to recognize some of the new establishments that came to Beaufort in 2022. Read on to learn more about five great additions to our community!
Shellring Ale Works
What’s not to love about a brewery inspired by the roots of our community? According to their website Shellring’s “inspiration stems from the communal shell rings of past generations – creating a place for good food, cold brews, and great conversation.” You can feel every bit of this vision when gathering with friends over a shared flight of craft beverages. Their location in the heart of Port Royal and right off the 11th Street docks is the perfect water-front setting for relaxing and living your best Lowcountry Life. Shellring carries new brews to try each season, but there are four staples you will always find on tap: Aria’s Amber Lager, Hop Dr. a Hazy India Pale Ale, Jelly a Fruited Sour Ale, and Nautical Light 9 an Ultra Session Ale.

Lowcountry Cider Co
This business may not be new to Beaufort county, but it’s new to historic downtown! You may have visited their location on St. Helena Island, and you can expect an equally superior experience at their waterfront Beaufort shop. They offer a wide variety of specialty coffees, pastries, and homemade lunch options. They are also well known for their eclectic curated gifts that range from gourmet food and beverages to Lowcountry memorabilia. We love having them in this accessible new location downtown!

Jah’Lion Grill & Bar
2022 also welcomed a great new place to eat downtown. Jah’ Lion Grill and Bar is a Caribbean style restaurant with a full bar and plenty of TVs for sports-lovers. Customers are raving about the great service and the even better food. Some favorites include the fresh shrimp, the red snapper, and the curry chicken. The number one recommended drink is the Rum Punch. A perfect place to try for date night or to stop and watch the big game or enjoy live music!

The Emerald Hotel
What a great addition to downtown Beaufort! Long-time Beaufort residents will recognize this building in the historic point neighborhood. The Emerald was originally the home of BoomBears, an iconic toy store designed by local architect James G. Thomas. This year, it reopened, after extensive renovations, as the first self-service boutique hotel in Beaufort. Unlike more conventional hotels, their unique fully automated check-in process means no front desk allowing for 100% contact free check-in. This new process provides the ease and convenience of an Airbnb, but with the perks and protections of a traditional hotel.
The Emerald is located just a short walk from Waterfront Park and the local shopping and dining options of Bay Street. Find more information and book your stay at The Emerald here.
501 Carteret St.
Check-in after 4 p.m.

Rooted Clothing Co
I know so many women who are already huge fans of this new boutique on Boundary street. Their clothing and accessories for women and children are great quality and reasonably priced, but it’s also the atmosphere that brings customers back! The owners make you feel at home and they are very kid friendly. The shop is well organized and has a great selection of cute outfits for any occasion that you and your littles need to dress for. Rooted Clothing Co is women owned and operated, and the owners and staff are incredible.
